One thing that Alan Moore is famous for is his ability to completely deconstruct superheroes and find an interesting new take on their origins.

One of his most famous examples is Swamp Thing. For years the character had the well-worn origin story of being a scientist named Alec Holland who was mutated into a monster by his own experimental formula. However, with The Anatomy Lesson, Moore flipped that idea completely on its head.

The issue revealed that Holland had actually died and his formula had instead affected the swamp itself, turning it into a sentient creature that only believed itself to be human.
