19. The Rights To Superman Sold For $130

You may have heard about the legal battle between the heirs of Superman's creators and Warner Bros./DC Comics, and its origins come from one fateful decision made by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1938. The creators (who attended high school together) sold the rights to the Man of Steel to Detective Comics for a $130, a lot of money at the time. However, neither man thought the character would take off the way he did, and they spent much of their lives battling the publisher before their respective families too over the fight. Whether they deserved to be compensated or not is hard to say, but what a mistake to make.
