20. A Daredevil Delay Created The Avengers

Stan Lee and his collaborators were on a real roll in the early 1960s, creating character after character, many of whom are A-Listers to this day. However, when some problems at the printers caused Daredevil #1 to be delayed, Stan Lee came up with the idea of throwing a bunch of existing Marvel superheroes into a team which would rival DC's Justice League of America. Thus, The Avengers were born, filling the gap left by the Man Without Fear.
