20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About The Hulk

14. "Bruce Banner" Sounds Too Gay?

When the Hulk got his own TV series in 1978, a number of changes were made to the comic books it was based on. One of the strangest was undoubtedly the decision to rename the characte Dr. David Banner. The show's producer claimed it was because it was unrealistic to have a character with an alliterative name (despite the fact that the guy playing him was named Bill Bixby), but Stan Lee and star Lou Ferrigno would later reveal the real reason. Apparently, the bosses at CBS decided that "Bruce" just sounded too gay, leading to them renaming him with what they obviously considered a far manlier moniker.
