3. Deadpool #11
Writers: Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan Artist: Mike Hawthorne
Probably my favourite Marvel NOW! series, Deadpool continues to be a blast and a hoot all at once thanks to the ingenious and hilarious scripts being written by Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan. They nail the character and voice of Deadpool perfectly - their Deadpool is funny, silly, and dangerous all at the same time, and the balancing act of having two different people in one body (currently deceased SHIELD Agent Prestons soul is trapped inside Deadpools head) is pulled off admirably. Michael (the necromancer responsible for bringing back to the life the dead presidents of the first story arc) has been sent to Hell in an effort to alert Mephisto that his throne is to be challenged by Vetis, a demon currently pressuring Deadpool into whacking a list of people whod sold their souls for superpowers. In this issue, Deadpool gets to the last name on the list, a shape-shifter called Bobby the Blender, who turns out to be the best hit in the series so far as it provides Deadpool a series of funny moments as he chases the creep through Times Square. It also leads to a great cameo from Daredevil as he and Deadpool tango in the streets (not literally unfortunately - that wouldve been great!). Posehn and Duggans run on the title is beginning to wind down with issue #12 being their last which is a real shame as their time with Deadpool has been so much fun. Mike Hawthornes tremendous art has added to the enjoyment of this title too and he continues to prove what a versatile artist he is with the visually rich and assorted cast he draws so well. If you love your comics fun, playful, imaginative and definitely grown-up with dashes of violence, Deadpool is for you, and this issue is a doozy.
