5 Incredibly Weird Things From 60s Spider-Man Comics

2. Green Goblin Rides A Giant Dildo

Spider-Man€™s arch enemy didn'€™t debut until ASM #14. By that point, other villains like Doc Ock and the Vulture had already appeared several times. (In fact, Mysterio made his first appearance in the previous issue. That'€™s right - Mysterio was on the scene before Gobby.)

The Goblin was hardly the sinister character we know these days (at this point, his real name was still a mystery - Lee and Ditko disagreed on making Norman Osborn the secret identity, with Lee in favor of Osborn and Ditko wanting it to be someone readers hadn'€™t seen before, which many believe led to Ditko€™'s departure and replacement with John Romita) - in fact, he seemed kind of silly.

He rockets through the sky on what he calls a €œbroomstick€ but actually resembles something€ a little more devious. Imagine Willem Dafoe riding around on THAT.
