5 Incredibly Weird Things From 60s Spider-Man Comics
2. Green Goblin Rides A Giant Dildo
Spider-Mans arch enemy didn't debut until ASM #14. By that point, other villains like Doc Ock and the Vulture had already appeared several times. (In fact, Mysterio made his first appearance in the previous issue. That's right - Mysterio was on the scene before Gobby.)
The Goblin was hardly the sinister character we know these days (at this point, his real name was still a mystery - Lee and Ditko disagreed on making Norman Osborn the secret identity, with Lee in favor of Osborn and Ditko wanting it to be someone readers hadn't seen before, which many believe led to Ditko's departure and replacement with John Romita) - in fact, he seemed kind of silly.
He rockets through the sky on what he calls a broomstick but actually resembles something a little more devious. Imagine Willem Dafoe riding around on THAT.
