4. Iron Fist
Along with questionable fashion choices, the 1970s was an era of Kung Fu in film and television. Never ones to miss a trend, Marvel Comics smashed bad costuming and martial arts together with Iron Fist, which told the tale of Danny Rand, a vengeance-driven Kung Fu master who gleaned his fighting skills (including the eponymous iron fist) from mysterious teachers in a hidden, mystical Himalayan mountain retreat. Unfortunately, in addition to turning him into a living weapon, Danny's masters would also saddle him with a clownish costume (which, to Danny's credit, he continues to wear to this day!) Actually,
Iron Fist's early adventures weren't half-bad, especially after Chris Claremont and John Byrne teamed to do some of their first Marvel work together on the book, but with his bandana head-mask, green tights, popped collar, and cute little yellow slippers, even John Byrne had a hard time making Danny look like anything other than a waiter in an Arabian-themed Las Vegas piano lounge. Extra points for the dragon tattoo on Iron Fist's chest, proudly displayed by that plunging v-neck!
Bonus! It was a kind of bad-fashion destiny that would see Iron Fist partner with Luke Cage as heroes for hire when the two teamed up in Power Man and Iron Fist starting in 1978. Two v-necks for the price of one! Such a bargain!
