1. The Creative Team
Marvel ComicsIn case the previous points haven't made it glaringly obvious, it has to be said; the current creative team working on this Daredevil series absolutely rules. The team of writer Mark Waid and artist Chris Samnee has been together since half way through 2011's initial Daredevil re-numbering, and they are continuing to go from strength to strength with every new issue. The balance between these two is perfect and also well supported by colourist Javier Rodriguez and letterer Joe Caramagna. Between them all they manage to make each page of every issue a triumph amongst a number of very mediocre comics that sit on shelves these days. Waid is a writer who truly understands his characters and their world well enough to allow his artistic staff to be able to tell his stories with minimal exposition. Some of the pages of the initial issues of this run have contained such minimal dialogue or monologue but still manage to say so much and even advance their stories. Samnee's style is very cartoon-influenced and it's perfect for this altered direction they are taking Daredevil and his companions in. While some artists struggle to consistently switch between intimate dialogue scenes and brash action sequences, Samnee and Rodriguez are able to play off each other so well that the overall visual appeal of these books is never found wanting. It's truly refreshing to have fantastic art filling every single panel of a book in a time where over-complication or over-filling is a tendency of many current artists. Daredevil is in the hands of a creative team well-versed enough in the character's history to make the character flourish in his new surroundings. If you're looking for a time to get back into Daredevil you could probably wait a while to jump into this as it's likely these guys will be trusted with him for a long time to come. Waiting to do so is
not recommended, though, as this is one of the best series' hitting our shelves these days and certainly not one to miss.
