03. Batman & Robin Are Actually Gay (According To A Psychologist)
It's no massive leap to find homosexual overtones in the superhero genre. The costumes, the boys club attitude, the nipples on the Bat suit ... the evidence is there if you look hard enough and more over if you actually care about such trivial trivia. Well, one person that was really interested in the relationship between Bruce and Dick/Batman and Robin was German-born psychologist Fredric Wertham, who led a witch hunt against comics in general as he perceived them as dangerous and homoerotic. He is best known for his work 'Seduction of the Innocent' and is partly responsible for the hideous Comics Code that stifled creativity for many years. From his studies with "sexually maladjusted individuals", Wertham stated that the relationship between the Caped Crusader and his man servant was extremely questionable and exhibited a kind of adolescent-with-adult or Ganymede/Zeus type of love relationship. Interesting how attitudes have changed since then as both DC and Marvel have featured gay characters in recent years.
