6 Alternate Versions Of Spider-Man Across The Multiverse

2. Spider-Man 2099

EARTH-928: Marvel 2099 is a potential future for the 616 Marvel Universe, and features a number of characters based off of their counterparts in the past. While not technically an alternate reality, it is an alternate timeline that introduced a number of new variations on the X-Men, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Hulk, Dr. Doom, and more. While the 2099 line itself wasn't incredibly long-lasting, the most successful and standout member of the futuristic timeline is without question Spider-Man 2099. Miguel O' Hara was a geneticist, working with the mega-corporation known as Alchemax. Inspired by the few remaining records of the hero known as Spider-Man, O'Hara's research was aimed towards creating super-powered corporate soldiers. After a falling out with his employer over the death of a test subject, Miguel is drugged and blackmailed, and forced to use his own experiment on himself to remove the genetic addiction of the drug. However, the experiment is sabotaged, which causes Miguel's DNA to be mixed with that of a spider, with interesting new abilities. He shared the strength, speed and agility of his namesake Spider-Man, but there were differences as well. His senses, particularly his eyesight were incredibly enhanced, he grew fangs that could release a paralyzing venom, as well as razorsharp talons on his fingertips and toes that enabled him to climb walls. He also produced organic webbing from spinnerets in his forearms.
Miguel became the new Spider-Man, and was a key part of the 2099 line, playing a part in every crossover and event and even crossing paths with Spider-Man of the 616 universe. A version of Spidey 2099 would even end up joining the cross-dimensional team known as the Exiles for a stretch. Currently, Miguel has returned to the 616 universe and faced off against the Superior Spider-Man. With Miguel stranded in the current timeline, expect a lot more from this fan-favorite Spidey in the near future.
