6 Comics With Incredibly Unique Art (That You Probably Haven't Read)
2. Harrow County
Harrow County is nothing short of beautiful. The comic tells a weaving tale of witchcraft and the supernatural in the deep south. The story is creepy and incredibly mesmerising. The protagonist is an 18-year-old girl named Emmy Crawford who discovers she is a witch over the course of the comic.
This poses an interesting setting for Harrow County which places Emmy in the 1930s deep south, a famously superstitious and oppressively religious setting. This is set up from the beginning, which shows the hanging of a witch named Hester Beck, whom Emmy is believed to be a reincarnation of. This allows for the story to place Emmy at odds with her surroundings as she learns of her powers.
Where Harrow County really shines though is the art. Tyler Crook, who had previously taken over from Guy Davis as the artist for Mike Mignola's B.P.R.D. series, did the art for Harrow County entirely himself, pencilling, inking, and colouring the whole comic.
This is no small feat, and becomes even more impressive considering that each panel is a hand-painted watercolour. Crook's medium allows for some truly incredible art and his talent really shows through in the comic.
