6 Reasons Watchmen Should Stay Out Of The DC Universe

3. Heroes Fighting Heroes Is Marvel’s Thing (And It Sucks)

In this particular political climate, one is reminded of the saying “evil triumphs when good men do nothing.” Well, evil also triumphs when good men are too busy fighting amongst themselves. People feeling their personal injuries are more important than the greater good is how we got into this mess. We need our heroes to actually fight bad guys or else it’s time to start reevaluating why we call them heroes in the first place.

Do we really need to see these two worlds collide in battle? Batman vs. Rorschack is no more exciting than Batman v. Superman. Marvel has been milking the hero-against-hero cow vigorously for the past ten years, but even before that the entire ethos of the line was based on heroes bickering with each other. DC is following suit with books like Justice League vs. Suicide Squad. Heroes fighting is not the groundbreaking stunt it once was. Now it’s so commonplace that it’s more novel to see heroes actually fighting villains.

Not only that, but the tone will be all over the place. You’ve got characters from a story that’s as bleak as Game of Thrones going up against brightly colored pajama warriors. DC superheroes deal with alien conquerors, world ending threats. The heroes of Watchmen only go up against street level crime, for the most part. Even their supervillains are completely without powers or advanced technology.

If they fight, and again, this seems very likely considering the current climate, it will be the furthest thing from a fair fight. The Crimebusters broke up after their first meeting; they’re not an elite team that’s been together for years. In Watchmen, all of the main characters are either retired or noticeably past their prime, with a couple of exceptions.
