The story revels in the characters and locales and history that the DCU has to offer.

Metal is a story all about how awesome and crazy and wonderful the DCU is. We go from Warworld, to Gotham, to mysterious islands, and see characters like Red Tornado and Hawkgirl and more, and it's bringing back so many wonderful ideas and toys that the DCU has been missing for a long time since its New 52 reboot.

Metal reminds the reader that they're reading a comic: the effects budget is limitless; you can go anywhere and see anything. So yes, you are going to get a Justice League Voltron-mech.
