6 Reasons Why Dark Nights: Metal #1 Rocks
1. It Feels Fresh
Despite the amount of DC history involved and comics event fatigue, this issue feels like a breath of fresh air.
And that probably comes from the fact it doesn't seem to stand on DC's history too much. Sure, we see characters and concepts not seen in ages, and even allusions to previous events from the publisher, but there's no real knowledge of these things needed to fully understand what is going on. It's just kind of like an easter egg for long-term fans.
Unlike earlier events like Final Crisis and Infinite Crisis, that really heavily relied on past knowledge of everything that came before at times, Metal is quite welcoming to new readers as much as it is to existing readers.
Plus, the decision to tell a story that is much more about the fun and craziness that can be achieved with the comics medium instead of making an intense decompression of characters or concepts integral to the DCU makes for a breath of fresh air compared to other major comic events.
