6 Times Comics Made Great Villains Terrible

There's no denying that the Clown Prince of Crime is Batman's greatest adversary, but - as the old saying goes - it is possible to have too much of a good thing. Bat-fans know this better than most, with the Joker having starred in dozens of comics over the course of the last decade, despite repeated calls for DC to let off.

To a lot of these stories' credit, what's been produced since the turn of the millennium has been compelling; storylines such as The Black Mirror and Death of the Family have undoubtedly benefited from the clown's presence, but the problem is that they're all too regular. Since 2011, the Joker has been the focus of numerous Batman crossovers, spin-offs and various other media adaptations, and it's all a little bit overwhelming

It's also completely unnecessary. The Dark Knight is the undisputed champion when it comes to his gallery of rogues, with the likes of Two Face, Ra's al Ghul, Bane and countless others all rounding out one of the best selections of supervillains the genre has ever seen, so why can't the Joker take a year or two off?
