7 Marvel Comic Events That Could Make Incredible Movies
5. Spider-Island
The Event: Although not a company-wide event, the Spider-Man focused story still had wide-reaching effects in the Marvel Universe. Everything seemed to be going right in Spider-Mans life until an epidemic begins to spread across Manhattan, granting everyone spider-powers just like him. Not everyone is as responsible as Spider-Man, however, and chaos quickly ensues, forcing him to work to contain and cure those affected, while searching for the source of the outbreak.
How It Could Work On Film: Theres plenty of ways that the MCU could handle Spider-Man which dont involve another version of the origin story. One such way would be to adapt this sufficiently bombastic event, which briefly establishes the character but throwing him into the middle of absolute craziness. The scope of the crisis could easily be scaled down for the sake of budget and practicality. Speaking of feasibility, Spider-Island would also retroactively allow Spider-Man to examine his own powers and purpose without having him actually get bitten by a radioactive spider for a third time.
It also carries an essential element to a potential film adaptation because of its memorable villain, in this case, the Jackal, a mad scientist with a penchant for trying to clone Spider-Man. Admittedly, there are probably better Spider-Man stories to use as a template for his debut, like Kraven's Last Hunt or Torment, but none are as fun or as easy to jump into as Spider-Island.
