2. Sssh! Dont Mention The Plot-Holes!
This mini-series has even more plot-holes than Bendiss stories usually contain. The opening scene of the series is Hawkeye rescuing Spidey whos being held captive by a group of thugs whore on mutant growth hormones (giving them temporary superpowers, eg. strength, speed, the necessaries to capture Spider-man). The thugs are planning on bartering Spidey with Ultron because Ultron does that now he lets some humans live in the ruins of New York but only so they can provide him with a steady stream of superheroes. Why? Whats he doing with the superheroes? Is he simply killing them? If so, why does he need any help with that when his drones are super-powerful? We never find out. Despite the fact that whenever Ultron shows up hes always talking about wiping out humanity, he clearly lets large portions of the population to live. Again, why? Why, instead of destroying every single human, is he policing them with his drones? Whats he getting out of this? What are his motives isnt it simply the total annihilation of the human race? We never find out. After stalling for 4 issues, Cap finally comes up with a plan to save the superheroes from Ultron retreat! He gambles it all on the Savage Land being unoccupied by the Ultron drones, which turns out to be exactly right! But why why didnt Ultron send a patrol, or even just one drone, to the Savage Land? Knowing as much as he does about the superheroes, youd have thought hed know that this place is a frequent hangout for superheroes. Why is it so special as to be exempt from his attention? We never find out. During the first apocalyptic storyline theres a subplot where Red Hulk, Black Panther and Taskmaster are in Chicago attempting to capture an Ultron drone. Initially Id thought this was so that the heroes could examine a drone to find its weakness. But this idea doesnt play out once Red Hulk gets his giant hands on a drone instead he simply wears it like a trophy pelt! Was that all that sub-plot was about to give Red Hulk some bling to wear? 'Cos this is filler! Filler night! And speaking of Red Hulk, how did he know to meet everyone in the Savage Land? The main group of heroes knew because that was their plan; Moon Knight and Black Widow knew because they found a plan in Furys San Francisco bunker that pointed them in that direction; Red Hulk? No clue. He just shows up in the Savage Land wearing his Ultron drone trophy. Is the Savage Land simply the logical refuge when an invasion of Earth happens? In the secondary main story where Wolverine and Sue travel to the now-changed present after killing Hank Pym, Cyborg Stark informs Wolverine that time is organic and can be torn if used too much. How does he know that? Has he been reading Bendis script? And why does time decide that now is the moment it will tear and break apart? After decades of Marvel time travel storylines, why does Wolverine taking 2 trips through time change everything suddenly? Then we get onto the other time travel paradox of there being 2 Wolverines. They solve this problem by going into a cave together and one coming back out, claws dripping blood. That and the cover of issue #9 being one Wolverine stabbing the other through his chest implies that Wolverine was killed by the other Wolverine. How? Isnt Wolverine basically un-killable? Doesnt his healing factor miraculously heal him of the most extreme injuries? This is a guy who can regrow limbs! And yet a simple stabbing is enough to apparently put him down for good? Hes been stabbed numerous times in the past, including with adamantium, and survived - what was so special about this time? We never find out. Factor in the characters acting out of character which Ive discussed in point 7 earlier in this list, and youve got one hell of a mess in the story of this series.
