7 Reasons Why Batman: The Long Halloween Is The Most Overrated Batman Book Ever

3. The Dumbest Holiday Killer Reveal #2

gildadent As bad as Alberto Falcone€™s reveal was, Loeb manages to outdo himself in the final few pages of the book by writing an even more terrible conclusion €“ Loeb hints that Alberto was only responsible for some of the killings and that Harvey Dent€™s mousy wife Gilda was responsible for the rest. Whaa€? So Loeb is suggesting that a housewife could manage a series of mob hits by herself? That Gilda €“ with no firearms training €“ could get into the son€™s house of the biggest mob boss in Gotham€™s, past his armed guards, to kill him in the tub? Or take out a restaurant full of gangsters? In Loeb€™s mind this incongruous conclusion is feasible. Her ridiculous motive is that she wants Harvey to spend less time working on bringing down Falcone and more time with her so they can start their family €“ so how does killing Falcone€™s colleagues, family members and rivals accomplish this? And the kills that happened on the holidays €“ when was she supposed to have gotten out of her hospital bed, past her vigilant husband, the hospital staff, out into the snow, get her gear, do the murder, then get back, all without being seen? Or when she was in a wheelchair €“ how did she manage the killings then? Or when the Gordons were round for drinks €“ did she slip out, drive to the city, perform the murder, then get back in time to serve snacks? Her motive is nonsensical, her methods of pulling off such a feat are beyond credible, and the opportunities when she could€™ve done these hits simply weren€™t there. She definitely could not have been the Holiday Killer. That Loeb hints at this is a perfect example of sloppy plotting by a hack. Alberto as Holiday makes sense as all of the hits were gangsters (with one exception €“ the coroner) and, as the son of a gangster, he would have knowledge of and access to their hideouts, have experience of firing guns, be able to get close to them, and the murders mostly all benefit Alberto€™s family. Holiday could only have been Alberto €“ to suggest Gilda as the killer is mind-bogglingly idiotic. And yet that€™s exactly what Loeb did.
