Batman and Captain America might not seem like characters best-suited to crossing over, given how little they share in common (at least on a surface level). However, perhaps it is precisely because of these differences that their interactions have been much better than the average comic book crossover. In 1996, legendary writer/artist John Byrne (X-Men, The Man Of Steel) gave the world Batman & Captain America, a one-shot story set in an alternate history World War II in which The Dynamic Duo teamed up with Cap and Bucky to thwart the evil shemes of The Joker and The Red Skull. The story is unashamedly an old school, 'boys own' type adventure, with a lighter hearted tone that would usually be expected from a Batman story. It was purely a fun comic book, and there's nothing wrong with that. Batman also faced off with Cap during the massive DC Vs Marvel crossover event that also made it's bow in 1996. This series was basically fan-service, designed to finally answer all those nagging questions we geeks argue about like 'Who would win between Superman and The Hulk?' or 'Who is faster, The Flash or Quicksilver?'. Answers: Superman and The Flash. In the battle between Bats and Cap, there wasn't really an outright winner, as the two men fought each other to a standstill and it was declared a draw.
