For any readers who are unfamiliar with 1990's comic books, the picture and title above may bemuse you. Dark Claw, you may ask? Why have I never heard of this clearly awesome and badass character? Well, read on and we'll explain to you just where Dark Claw emerged from. During the DC Vs Marvel crossover that was mentioned in the entry on Batman and Captain America, the two companies took the opportunity to merge some of their characters. Between issue's 3 and 4, a series of 12 issues was produced and published under the name of Amalgam Comics, featuring such characters as Super-Soldier (mixing Superman with Captain America), Iron Lantern (Iron Man and Green Lantern) and Amazon (Wonder Woman and Storm). These 12 issues were followed up a year later by another dozen, with six each published by DC and Marvel respectively. This was a superbly interesting time to be a comic book fan, and even though the Amalgam comics varied wildly in quality, they were still one of a kind, must-have curiosities. So, in case you haven't already guessed, Dark Claw was a merging of Batman with Wolverine, which is definitely as awesome as it sounds. Legends Of The Dark Claw cleverly mixed the back-stories of both characters, with the exploits of Logan Wayne emerging as something that had lots of potential for further stories. Sadly, fans were only given the initial issue and then Dark Claw Adventures, an issue drawn in the style of the Batman animated series' spin-off comic. A return of the Dark Claw would surely generate interest amongst the comic book community, but it has likely been left in the past along with the other Amalgam creations. What say you?
