8 Comics That Would Sell More If The Lead Character Was Replaced

7. Aqua Man

Poor Aqua Man. He's actually a very powerful character, yet he has historically been given the snub when compared to his Justice League counterparts. Despite popular belief, his abilities extend well beyond "go talk to some fish". First off, he doesn't just talk to fish, he controls sea life (and people) with his will. That means schools of sharks or walls of tsunami-causing whales are at his command. He rules the 70% of earth that land-dwellers cannot effectively invade. He is super strong (enough to throw a car like a football), super fast, and wields a trident that can make Darkseid bleed like a stuck pig. He is not only a member, but the founder of the Justice League. With such an impressive resume, comic fans still feel tepid about the ruler of Atlantis. DC attempted to reboot his origin in 1989 and even took a crack at replacing and rebooting him in 2006. It's time for Aquaman, born Orin and known as Arthur Curry, to pass the Trident on to the next monarch. The cinematic version of Aquaman that will be performed by Jason Momoa looks to be a more intriguing take on the character. He's darker, more serious-looking, and quite frankly, looks more like an aqua...man. Lest you think a simple makeover would do the trick for the sea-dweller, this has been done before as well. He's had new outfits, new haircuts, a new beard and a new hand. Sadly, DC needs a new king or queen; someone who connects with modern readers and makes the ocean a fun place for fans to go again.
