Way back in the year 2000, while everyone else was freaking out about Y2K and the Spice Girls splitting up, Marvel launched the Marvel Mangaverse.

The first volume featured a Hulk that looked like Godzilla, who fights an Iron Man that assembles the Avengers into one big ass Super Sentai-style Iron Man, which is cool enough to omit it a proper spot on this list. The first volume was followed by a second featuring the Fantastic Four, and then a standalone Spider-Man series, and countless other anime-inspired iterations of Marvel properties.

However, the winner of most peculiar of all of the Mangaverse stories - which is really saying something considering in this universe The Punisher is a female high school principal, nicknamed "Tokyo's kinkiest superhero", who tortures her enemies by spanking them - falls to the X-Men.

Particularly, that of Wolverine. In this universe, Wolverine fills Xavier's position as head of the X-Men. He and Cyclops are also brothers, for some reason, and have both dated Jean Grey at some point, again for whatever reason.

But the absolute weirdest part of this incarnation has to be his design. Not only does he sport some kind of facial tattoo, but he also has one regular adamantium claw and one lightsaber claw.

Plus he literally dresses like Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z. Everything about it, like the weird brotherly love triangle, makes it seem like an oddly specific fan-fic instead of a real story published by Marvel.
