8 Things To Know About The DC Comics Rebirth

3. The New Wally West Is Here To Stay

When the New 52 came along, one of the biggest absences was Wally West. For the huge number of fans who grew up with the Justice League animated series, and saw Wally as the primary Flash instead of Barry Allen, this was a pretty unforgivable exclusion. So when the ginger-haired adult did show up as an African-American teenager, fans weren’t exactly thrilled.

If anything, Rebirth tells us that this will be Wally West from now on and it’s best to let go of the past. It’s fine that they want to blaze a new trail for the character, but in their efforts to please everyone, they’ve really alienated everyone.

Fans of the classic character are not just bitter about his race-swap but about his changed origin and personality. Meanwhile, fans of the progressive change are annoyed that DC is relegating him to the sidelines in the Teen Titans book and not much else. It’s commendable that DC is standing by their decisions, but with an opportunity like Rebirth, certain people will definitely be upset that nothing is changing with this character.
