The Phantom is by no means a popular hero today, but the pulp character was a true pioneer.

Created in 1936 by Lee Falk, The Phantom strip became popular almost overnight and inspired many of the tropes readers tend to associate with the superhero genre, namely the skintight outfits. Somewhat bizarrely, a live action Phantom film was released in the early nineties along with two other projects based on pulp heroes, namely the Shadow and the Rocketeer.

Regardless of the fact The Phantom is nowhere near as popular today as he once was, his years spent as a pulp icon ensure that his series still remains one of the medium's best selling.
