9 Best Selling Comic Series Of All Time‏

150 Million Comics Sold

Spawn was comics' original nineties bad-boy, and the brainchild of popular Spider-Man artist Todd McFarlane. The comic launched at the height of the speculator boom, and so collectors - salivating at the prospect of getting the character's first issue in the hopes it could eventually become another Action Comics #1 - gobbled it up by the dozen.

To put into perspective just how successful a feat this was, Spawn is estimated to have sold as many comics in total as The Phantom, only, whereas that strip has been published some 3000 times, Spawn has been published a meagre 600.

Almost like the Phantom, Spawn isn't as popular figure today as he was when he first debuted. The comic's success and the beginning of Image Comics are both important moments in the medium's history though, while Spawn's stories themselves have remained entertaining and stylish start to finish.
