Diabolik is an Italian noir comic that centres around the titular thief - Diabolik - getting up to all sorts of shady goings on. The strip was created by Angela and Luciana Giussani in 1962, and consists of 800 volumes. 800! Not even Superman has as many.

Diabolik may not have really penetrated the American market, but he's proven to be quite the hit in Italy. Even so, the character has inspired several other characters over the years, including the X-Men's Fantomex and even Nemesis too.

Again, it's a series most will likely be unaware of, but it's a testament to how comics outside of America can still find success.
