5. Daredevil: Yellow
It seems that when a Daredevil comic is released with a theme shared by other character branches, Daredevil's stories always seem to come out on top. So is the same for Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's (
The Long Halloween, Dark Victory)
Color set, with
Daredevil: Yellow being the most emotional and appealing of the bunch. A look back at the history of the relationship between Matt Murdock and his one true love Karen Page,
Yellow is an emotional, humorous, sentimental, and beautiful homage to Stan Lee's work on the character, while providing a vibrant, contemporary take on the character. It's easy to get caught up in the tired cliches of character narration, but Loeb's dialogue is so fresh, smart, witty, and natural that it's a welcome return to form that is so often abused by writers. Combine that with a recycled story that never feels like it's gone through the grinder with the most lovable interpretations of the Daredevil mythos and you get a genuine classic. And, of course, if you enjoyed Loeb's
Yellow, be sure to grab his and Sale's work on
Spider-Man: Blue, which follows the same formula, but with Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. You may need some tissues. What are you waiting for?
