In 2009, an ex-pupil set fire to his old school, causing over 1 million worth of damage. Christopher Clancy, aged 19, confessed to arson at the Irish-language Colaiste Chillian school in Clondalkin. Clancy was dressed and made up as the Joker when setting fire to the building. He told police that his reason for the arson was because the school "is run by hypocrites and I didn't like the way they treated my friends." Clancy cut his way through a wire fence in order to access the school's grounds, before spilling the contents of six large jerry cans filled with petrol along the building's corridors. Clancy had been planning the attack for five months, just after he had left the school.
