9 Mind Blowing "What If?" Scenarios That Almost Changed Comics Forever
7. Jack Kirby Stays At Marvel
Although Jack Kirby is more commonly known for his work on Marvel during the sixties, the proverbial King of Comics actually switched allegiances in 1970 to join bad boy rivals DC.
During Kirby's stint at DC, he created what would be known as the 'Fourth World' saga, a series of stories that would see the creation of key DC icons like Darkseid, Mister Miracle and Orion. Kirby unleashed his full potential during this period, crafting a universe of his own making that was indelibly connected to his own sci-fi style that had only bubbled underneath the service during his stint at Marvel.
Speaking of, Kirby left that company in protest, supposedly, of Stan Lee's burgeoning media profile, and also because of their attempts to get him to sign a new contract that would've prevented the writer from ever taking legal action against the company. If this wasn't the case, and Marvel were more enthusiastic in singing his praises, then there's every chance Kirby's Fourth World would never have come into being.
Further to that, with Kirby still at Marvel, it's possible that the company's bumper Bullpen Age could've continued, with new heroes being added alongside the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and Hulk.
In any case, the King's contributions to the DC Universe are in major need of some love, both on the page and off it.
