9 Storylines That Defined Popular Comic Book Characters
4. Spiderman - Civil War
Although Civil War was not Spiderman's solo series, he was one of the most heavily affected by its events. In an act of support for Iron Man and the Superhero Registration Act, Peter Parker reveals his identity to the world. As a result, he is socially ostracized and loses his job, complicating his situation further. While Peter's primary struggle is to keep his superhero life from bleeding into his personal life, revealing his identity turned the stories on their head.
He was further changed when the negative backlash to his reveal in-universe forced him to reconsider the effects of superheroes being outed. It gave him a unique perspective, and Spiderman would eventually join Captain America's faction because of his regret.
Unfortunately, the film adaptation could not do the same thing as the comics did, mostly because a proper film on the series would be longer than most trilogies. Even if they did have the time, the events don't really fit into the story of the Marvel universe, so Civil War was merely an adaptation in name only.
