Batman: 5 Reasons The Bat-Family Remains Relevant

5. Darkness Breeds The Brightest Lights

The greatest setting for heroes always will be Gotham City. Mired in crime and psychopaths, you can€™t spit without hitting a drug deal or a bank robbery. If you€™re lucky enough to live long enough to testify against the man who broke your legs, don€™t bother. The judge, the prosecutor€Hell, the court reporter€™s most likely bought off. Crime is the currency in Gotham City, and everyone knows it. Everyone except the Family. The hottest flame tempers the finest steel, and there is nothing that has been tempered like the Family. Every Robin save Damien has lost his family to crime. Batgirl has had to sit by and watch her brother become a sociopath and serial killer. And Batman has loved and lost more than the entire family combined. Gotham City has thrown everything it possibly could at the Family, and still it has persevered. We face darkness every day. Hopefully not on the scale of the Joker, but real-life monsters face us every day. Seeing people, even fictional people, come back issue after issue and beat back the hordes of society, it makes the rise out of bed that much easier. The Family stands now as dark lights in the black, trying to hold off against the night. They still remain relevant and endure in our hearts.
