Captain Marvel: 10 Comics Fans Must Read After Seeing The Film

5. The Brood Saga

The Enemy Within
Marvel Comics

While Carol Danvers typically runs about in her own title, there have been times when she played a pivotal role in another group's story. The Brood Saga is one such event in which Danvers and the X-Men team up to battle the Brood in the alien race's first appearance.

While the Brood were launched under the X-Men's title and remained one of their greatest enemies, they didn't become friends with Carol Danvers in any respect thanks to this story. After Carol was captured by the cosmic cockroaches alongside the X-Men, she is separated from the group due to her Kree DNA.

They decided to experiment on her (instead of implant their young into her body for incubation purposes as was their original plan). In doing so, they unlock a new superpower that will change the course of Danvers' life from that point forward.

As previously mentioned regarding Ms. Marvel Vs. The Cru, Danvers certainly has a troubled past with the Brood, and it all started with this story. Chris Claremont's brilliant writing of the X-Men transferred over to his take on Danvers in a way that helped expand the character into new heights.
