Captain Marvel: 12 Major Characters From The Comics You Need To Know

At first introduced as the seemingly inevitable return of the dead hero Mar-Vell (as per Marvel Comics's usual "revolving door of death" with its characters), Khn'nr is revealed to be a Skrull, genetically engineered to have all of Mar-Vell's features, powers and memories, to be used as a weapon against Earth.

He accidentally loses all of his own memories during the procedure, truly believing himself to be Mar-Vell, and kills the entire ship full of Skrulls before escaping. He eventually makes his way back to Earth, for a time living and fighting as Captain Marvel.

Later, however, he finds the lab in which he was created, and remembers that he's a Skrull, and not the real Mar-Vell. Still, he vows to protect the Earth despite his origins. He would eventually cross paths with and clash with Norman Osborn, before fighting against the massive Skrull army bearing down on Earth during Secret Invasion.

He would give up his life for Earth in the end, in honour of Mar-Vell and his own memories, giving his title up to the Kree warrior Noh-Varr.
