2. Action Comics
As I stated previously, Action Comics was my first exposure to Grant Morrison and his style of storytelling. And his style is dense. He adds the smallest of details that become major plot points six months or even a year after the fact. He pulls inspiration from Golden Age and Silver Age comics to make something new. His Superman basically starts out as Siegel and Shuster's social crusader of the 1930s and 40s. He wants to do good, but those methods no longer work. You can't just throw someone off a building in order to get them to confess to a crime. And Superman is not everyone's favorite superhero in the beginning. People are scared of him. If a bulletproof man who could leap tall buildings in a single bound and bend steel girders with his bare hands showed up in you town, you'd probably be a bit freaked out, too. Also, I really love the new five years ago costume as well. I was surprised that they basically gave him Superboy's pre-Flashpoint outfit with a mini-cape. Rags Morales's art is stupendous and really adds to how great the costume is. My only complaint about the entire series so far is the two issue story break that occurred right in the middle of the first arc. The arc is an excellent updating of the origin combined with an awesome new Brainiac. And the issues are really good, but the break totally kills the momentum of the story. Luckily, they moved these two issues to the end of trade so that the story flows a lot better.
