Every Character Who Lifted Thor's Hammer Mjolnir

12. Superman

Hulk Mjolnir
DC Comics/Marvel Comics

As much as the two companies behind this comic declare their undying rivalry with each other, it was only a matter of time before one of the various writers and artists working for Marvel and DC finally got their way and got to give the comic reading public the crossover we'd all wanted: JLA/Avengers.

This comic is packed to the brim with exactly what you'd want to see in a story like this, but the most stand out scene in the entire maxi series is when Superman is deemed worthy of lifting Mjolnir.

During the Avengers and JLA's final assault on the fortress of villain Krona, Superman finds himself at the final and strongest barrier between them and the madman. To give Supes the edge needed to get through, Thor tosses him his hammer and, naturally, Superman is worthy. With one mighty swing, the barrier comes down.

Now it doesn't last for long, sadly - Superman and magic don't mix and he outright states that the power is overwhelming in just the moment between grabbing and swinging the hammer - but the pages where it happens are some of the most legendary in comics history.
