Fantastic Four: 10 Times The Thing Redefined The Word “Fantastic”
7. Marrying Alicia Masters
One of the true calming forces in the Thing’s life and a major factor in Ben coming to terms with his transformation, has been the blind sculptress, Alicia Masters. She has helped Ben see beyond the physical and knows him for the big-hearted softie that he truly is inside that rocky exterior and gruff talk. Self-pity, fear of rejection, Skrull impersonation, fear for her safety, and just plain pig-headedness kept Ben from asking Alicia to marry him for several years.
After Ben’s return to Earth with the Guardians and his travels through the Multiverse with Johnny and Doom, Grimm returns to the present and proposes to Alicia, who accepts happily. Ben asks Johnny to be his Best Man but the Human Torch angrily says “No!”, claiming only Reed Richards should be his best man. With Ben believing Richards and the rest of the family to be dead, he reacts angrily to Johnny until a “4” made of stars lights up the sky.
After that adventure and the return of the whole family, the wedding was set but Ben was sure that it was going to be crashed by supervillains, as that was the norm for them. Reed created a temporal bubble that stopped time in the outside world for four minutes and allowed the Rabbi to marry the couple without incident. After which, Ben and the team immediately had to go to fight Galactus and Doctor Doom. Mazel Tov!
