Mark Millar & Dave Gibbons Team For THE SECRET SERVICE

Millar's 24 year dream to work with the Watchmen artist comes true on new, original Millarworld project.

When he was seventeen, Mark Millar sent a letter to Dave Gibbons, artist of the Watchmen, asking him if he would like to follow up his art duties on the superhero epic with a Shazam story the young Scot had written. Needless to say the offer was politely rejected, but over twenty four years later Millar's dream of teaming up with Gibbons (they could have worked together on Superman: Red Son, but Gibbon's, in his own words, 'foolishly' turned it down due to other commitments) is finally being realized with the release of The Secret Service in 2012, under Marvel's creator owned Icon imprint. Revealed by Comic Book Resources, the collaboration was announced last November with a late 2011 release date given for the then unknown project. Not much is known as Millar doesn't want to give anything away before the release of issue twelve of CliNT, Millar's own magazine, which will have an interview with the creators about the book and a preview of the series. All that is know for certain is that Millar will auction off the rights to name the super villain to a member of the public with the money going to charity, a practice he has done twice before with Kick-Ass and Nemesis. The Secret Service is not the only book Millar is releasing in 2012. He has stated that in 2012 he will focusing solely on Millarworld, the name given to all his creator owned projects released by different publishers. €œOur 2012 line-up includes 'Kick-Ass 2' with John Jr., 'Supercrooks' with Leinil Yu, 'The Secret Service' with Dave Gibbons, 'Nemesis 2' with Steve McNiven and a massive brand new superhero epic by Frank Quitely,€ Millar has said, €œI don't think there's a company out there with as high a concentration of A-list artists as our plans for next year. It's very exciting.€
