Marvel's Fresh Start: 8 Reasons To Be Concerned

7. The Teaser Image Promises More Of The Same

Although it's pretty difficult to communicate the look and feel of a universe with one image (and let's be clear, Jim Cheung's piece for A Fresh Start is gorgeous), the characters chosen to communicate Marvel's ostensible 'new beginning' might not have been the most appropriate.

While it's great to see the whole Defenders included (sans Iron Fist, hilariously), as well as some of Marvel's more mainstream characters, it lacks new faces. Jane Foster's tenure as Thor might be coming to a tragic end, and it was always going to be the case that the Odinson recovered his mantle sooner or later, but she's missed in this illustration, and will be on the whole when she departs - hopefully not for good.

Then there's the contrived nature of three of these characters' reassumption of their respective mantles. Wolverine was first to return in Marvel Legacy, despite the fact Laura was doing just fine leading the hero's books under writer Tom Taylor, and Bruce Banner - having departed in the equally contrived Civil War II - is back as the Hulk. Then there's Eddie Brock's return as Venom, no doubt designed to coincide with the release of Sony's Venom film.

There's no denying the potential for these characters to star in some amazing books, but opening your 'new beginning' with them feels almost like a contradiction.
