MCU: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Mephisto
1. He Was Going To Be De-Demonised For TV
Astonishing but true, Mephisto's barely gotten anything on the small screen. He enjoyed a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance as an aberration in 'Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends' and a cameo in the '90s animated Silver Surfer series.
The latter of the two is especially painful for Mephisto fans for two reasons. First up, he was supposed to be the lead villain for a second season of Norrin Radd's cosmic hijinks until it was cancelled. Secondly, and one that perhaps make the former a relief to some, Mephisto was going to be heavily watered down.
Alarmed at what such a demonic character on a kids' show might do to their PR, Fox demanded a lighter, cleaner rendition of the soul-stealing menace. Had season two of the underrated animated series gone ahead, Mephisto would've finally secured some televisual exposure at a price many die hard Marvel fans likely would've rolled their eyes at.
The eight episodes written for season two never came to fruition due to legal troubles behind the scenes at the time. Mephisto-lite was ultimately a tease of nothing and he remains a curiously absent figure in Marvel shows to this day. While many had hoped to see a fully monstrous version of him turn up in WandaVision, he never showed.
