Spider-Man: 10 Alternate Spider-Verse Stories Fans Must Read

4. Ultimate Comics: Death Of Spider-Man

Unlike Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the comics had us travel with this version of Peter Parker for almost a decade.

We saw his journey, his victories and defeats, and so when he dies, and it becomes clear that this time they mean it, it turns what would otherwise be another supervillain revenge story into a crucible that challenges, and ultimately reinforces everything Peter Parker stood for.

With Osborn having escaped from prison along with every other major villain who's A-okay with murdering a teenager (or at least not keen on following poor Dr. Octavious' example if they aren't), New York quickly erupts into the fight to end all fights, with Peter forced to take on Osborn alone.

The two end up killing each other, and the city mourns its hero. The Ultimate line may have descended into edgelord territory more than a few times (particularly with the X-Men), but this story is handled with the grace and dignity it deserves.
