Spider-Man: 10 Ways Miles Morales Is Eclipsing Peter Parker
1. Sara Pichelli's Art Is Breathtakingly Good
Given the acrobatic abilities of the web-slinging hero, Spider-Man stories have always relied on exciting and dynamic visuals to capture the character's performances. Over the years many different artists have given this their own take to varying degrees of success, but right now we have a stellar artist bringing Miles' work to life.
Sara Pichelli's work - through her time on Ultimate Spider-Man right through to this new solo story - has always perfectly captured the essence of Spidey. The sweeping, fast-paced shots of the hero's powers in action are regularly breathtaking, but the focussed emotional scenes are just as effective when the detail of facial expressions or actions have to be highlighted.
Special mention has to go to colourist Justin Ponsor as well. Ponsor has covered some huge Marvel titles with aplomb in recent years, but his work brings Pichelli's art to life in a recipe that rivals the likes of bacon and egg or jelly and ice cream; the two are just perfect together. When the visuals of a book like Spider-Man are so important to capturing the heroes' abilities, the work that Pichelli and Ponsor are turning in is a joy to behold.
