Stan Lee's 20 Greatest Marvel Comics Creations
17. The Invisible Woman
Jessica Alba is nowhere near as bad an actress as people make out, and Kate Mara can be great given the right script. But unfortunately in three films we still haven’t seen what Sue Storm can really do. And no, that’s not an Invisible Woman joke... maybe just a little.
It’s a shame none of her film outings have been up to scratch because the movie going public need to know the truth comic book fans do; the Fantastic Four are one of Stan Lee’s best creations.
Sue is a huge part of that. While she’s neither the leader nor does she have Johnny’s or Ben’s more showstopping powers, she is the bond that holds them together. As Johnny’s sister and Reed’s lover, Sue is the lynchpin of the Fantastic Four and the key to its success.
Sue was Lee’s first female hero and in many ways is a shining example of the craft he put into his work. He was desperate to ensure she was a valuable member of the team, but also careful not to make her Marvel’s Wonder Woman; he wanted her to stand on her own, hence the invisiblity. Given her enduring popularity, seems like he got it right.
