The 10 Best Horror Comics You've NEVER Heard About

8. The Wrath Of The Spectre

Scott Snyder Severed
DC Comics

One of the first comics to chronologically be a part of the "bronze" age of comics, and definitely a crash course on what to expect from this era of comics. While The Spectre had always been somewhat horror themed beforehand, he had definitely lost some of his teeth when he became more active in DC's superhero community, particularly with his work with the JLA.

Wrath Of The Spectre, therefor, was a return to form. But one that still managed to take the character in new and interesting directions that he couldn't before. The basic gist of the overall story is rather formulaic, Jim Corrigan hears of a crime, finds out who committed the crime, The Spectre proceeds to wreck their s**t.

What makes it so entertaining are the stories themselves. In particular, the Spectre's methods of tormenting and eventually dispatching his targets. While his method of killing them can be considered rather tame today, the art still makes them out to be striking and haunting ways to go for a person. They're, after all, the perfectly chosen means to kill this one specific person.

So if you love yourself some superheroics mixed in with the creeping dread of a slasher movie, then you need to pick yourself up some Spectre ASAP.
