3. What Does This Mean?
The driving force, the standard of excellence for Joss Whedons creations, has always been a sense of overall meaning. For Buffy, it was originally the dangers of high school, and then life, blown into hyperbole and the supernatural. Angel was about redemption and growing beyond immaturity to something more. Even Dollhouse was about the roles weve been given/forced into. But here in Season 9, I couldnt tell you what the overall meaning is. That we all need a little magic in our lives? That we must live with our consequences? This isnt just a problem that can be resolved with a few quirks. The overall ideas of a series are why words are typed in the first place, why there should even be a comic. Until there is some cohesion of thought, the Buffyverse will be mired in mediocrity.
