The Joker: 10 Most Famous Comic Book Origins Ranked Worst To Best

4. He Haunts Gotham As A Demon

The Joker
DC Comics

The Joker has always seemed oblivious to pain, laughing manically in the faces of his enemies and managing to survive beating after beating dished out by Batman at the same time. Fires, crashes and numerous other attempts on his life have failed over the years and, in the story The Endgame, his survival instincts are speculated to be because he is an immortal demon called the Pale Man of Gotham City.

The Pale Man is said to be older than the city itself and has spent the majority of its life torturing inhabitants and inflicting his reign of evil upon them all. It is said within The Endgame that the immortal creature was once a normal being, who came into contact with dionesium from Ra’s al Ghul’s Lazarus Pit, with the consequence being the birth of one of Gotham’s creepiest inhabitants.

Ranking Explained: This entry would rank a lot higher if, at the end of the comic, the Joker suggests it was all just a ruse to mess with Batman’s mind. However, that said, it’s still pretty cool to think of the Prince of Crime being so much more than a mere human.

Sport and Film. I love them both. And I'm extremely lucky to write about two of my biggest passions in life. Most of the time, I'm at the Daily Express newspaper writing about football, tennis and F1. But, when I'm out of there, I let my imagination run wild and pen down my thoughts on the film series' I love. WhatCulture gives me the chance to write about the movie industry - an industry I really care about. And for that, I'm extremely grateful. And hope you, if you're reading this, enjoy what I think about stuff.
