6. Joker Cuts Tongue Open
The problem with popularity, is that eventually, the ideas start to dry up. By Batman 680, the Joker had been around for 68 years and untold issues, so finding new ways to shock with the character was becoming quite the task. Yet, let It never be said that Grant Morrison hasnt shocked quite a few readers in his time with his wild ideas and even wilder plots, so perhaps it was just as well he was guiding the Jokers journey at the time. Occurring during the Batman R.I.P storyline, the Joker, when confronted by Batman, does the unthinkable. Taking the fork tongued metaphor to its logical conclusion, the Harlequin Of Hate cuts his own tongue in half, securing his place as the most deranged villain still out there and a place in the blackest of readers hearts.
