The Joker's 10 Most Sickeningly Twisted Moments

8. The Full Monty

Reinvented in 'The Dark Knight' as a more realistic, sadistic foe (in line with the movie's Heath Ledger), Joker's new look bled through to the comics in Brian Azzarello's grim graphic novel 'Joker'. A more realistic take on the Batman/Joker mythos, the story sees the Joker released from Arkham and befriending a low-level thug named Mr. Frost during his travels around Gotham. Well, as much as Mr. J can ever befriend anyone, anyway.

The most memorable moment in the story sees the Joker and his chums visit an old accomplice - poor doomed Monty - in a seedy strip club. What follows makes 'The Dark Knight's' pencil trickery look like positively harmless hijinks by comparison. After Joker and Monty disappear into a back room to talk business, the latter emerges skinned from the shoulders down, looking like something left over from a particularly nasty episode of 'Hannibal'.

It's a far cry from the days of 'biggest boners' and smiling fish. Why so serious, modern Joker?
