The Real Story Behind When DC Characters Appeared In Monthly Marvel Comics

4. World War 3

Marvel Comics

Marvel would officially call time on the Heroes Reborn era at the end of its first year; by then, Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld had more or less ceased working on the books, even though their respective studios were still credited with producing them.

However, Lee was still very much involved in this world. So much so, when the time came to bring about the end of Franklin Richard's pocket universe and have the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the Incredible Hulk and Doctor Doom return home of the 616 timeline, he would have them cross over with his Wildstorm Universe - thus, having the likes of Maul, Grifter and Deathblow not only appear, but fight side-by-side with the Marvel heroes against the combined evil of Helspont and Doctor Doom.

The crossover, written by James Robinson, would act as a miniature version of Crisis on Infinite Earths and reset Marvel continuity back to a single point. All while hopefully bringing exposure to characters and concepts that Lee owned.
