The Real Story Behind When DC Characters Appeared In Monthly Marvel Comics
1. The New 52
When DC announced the New 52 - a company-wide restart of every title it produced - the news came as a shock to pretty much everyone.
This move was as bold as it was controversial and left the fan base split right down the middle. Along with new origins for Superman and the Justice League, there would be bold new directions for the Flash, Aquaman and Green Lantern. Perhaps the most controversial decision would be removing stalwarts, the JSA.
One of the least remarked changes was folding in the various Wildstorm characters to this new universe. Not only did this bring an end to Jim Lee's creator-owned studio, but it also meant the likes of Grifter, Maul and Deathblow would end up sharing the same universe as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.
Ultimately, this led to characters that once shared a universe with Savage Dragon, Shadowhawk, and Spawn now existing in the mainstream DC continuity. More importantly, these same heroes and villains had also, for the briefest of moments, existed within the mainstream Marvel universe as well.
