Mjolnir is likely the best-known weapon in the Marvel Universe, and thanks to the popularity of the MCU, it may very well be the best-known in all of comic books. That's saying something, seeing as comic books have everything from Green Lantern rings to Excalibur.
Mjolnir first appeared alongside Thor in Journey Into Mystery, but the hammer has had a major impact throughout the Marvel Universe ever since. It has been wielded by Thor Odinson, but it has also been picked up by several other characters deemed worthy to carry it.
The hammer can empower a normal person with the power of Thor, which is what it did initially, though it would transform into a walking stick and reverse the transformation if it wasn't held for a short period of time. Over the years, it has changed in appearance and level of power, but one thing is certain, it's an incredibly powerful weapon.
Mjolnir can be magically retrieved by Thor, seemingly from any distance. It will come back to him once it's thrown, and it can stop an enemy dead in their tracks if it's placed atop them. It also channels lightning, and in a pinch, it can pound a nail into a piece of wood.
